Fundamental concepts in design and their connection to the discipline of Landscape Architecture. Emphasis on creative investigation of space and form in relationship to the human scale. Investigations entail hands-on projects that engage students with the foundational discourse of Landscape Architecture. LA1111L is the introduction to the lower division design sequence. The goal of this course is to familiarize students with fundamental concepts in design, the basic lexicon of landscape architecture and the culture of the design studio. The studio is a place to depart from what we know - or think we know – and immerse ourselves in new ways of thinking and seeing the world. This studio is about asking questions and exploring possibilities, articulating what we do through drawing, making, writing and speaking.
