TEXTILEscape
In considering TEXTILE as a woven fabric-like condition as the basis for a figure-ground, or solid-void study in three dimensions, students work in teams of three to create a three-dimensional construction made of 2x4 lumber. The TEXTILEscape construction weaves together the first initials of each team member, beginning with study models weaving the three initials together. Inserting wood into the negative spaces of the initials and using joints to enhance the weaving, hand-drafted architectural drawings of the construction are crafted as a template for actual construction in the campus wood shop.
