SLAUSON CONNECT SITE & COMMUNITY ANALYSIS

“The Slauson Corridor has serviced the South Los Angeles community for well over half a century. Historically, it has been viewed as a major thoroughfare and a passthrough to from the westside to the LA River. My vision is to completely transform Slauson into a key Los Angeles attraction. A place where community members, tourist and our local workforce can enjoy beautifully landscaped open space, community resources and explore opportunities for economic development. I am spearheading the development of several parcels along the corridor and this presentation will outline my vision for Slauson to serve as the catalyst for economic development that South Central Los Angeles has been waiting. Thanks to the City s collaboration with Metro, we will be able to realize this transformation within the next two to three years.” - Councilmember Curren D. Price Jr. Ninth City Council District

This two acre site is located along Slauson between Normandie and Budlong and has sat blighted and idle for decades. Slauson was once home to the Pacific Railway Company’s Red Cars, which was a privately owned mass transit system established in 1901. These electric trolleys transformed our transportation system and played a vital role in the increase of tourism throughout Southern California. The construction of Los Angeles freeways led to the destruction of the electric trolley network in 1950. The rail lines have since been abandoned.
