FREEDOM OF CHOICE
“Today’s residential segregation in the North, South, Midwest, and West is not the unintended consequence of individual choices and of otherwise well-meaning law or regulation but of unhidden public policy that explicitly segregated every metropolitan area in the United States.”
― Richard Rothstein, The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America
Students self-reflect on their previous perceptions of how cities are planned and what assumptions they previously held about marginalized communities and people. By asking if these issues can be solved by design alone and if The American Dream a farce, students reimagine neighborhoods devoid of racial segregation, redlining, white flight and race-based policy and redefine the dream.
